Dun Telve

'Brochs are amoung Scotland's most impressive prehistoric buildings. These stone roundhouses date from around 2,300 to 1,900 years ago, and are found mainly in north and west Scotland'.

'The double skinned drystone walls support each other and make possible a high building of relatively lightweight structure. Dun Telve is the second tallest surviving broch, standing just over 10 metres high. It survived almost complete until the 18th century, when it was partly demolished for buildings nearby'.

'What is puzzling is the relationshgip between this broch and the one just up the glen at Dun Troddan. Did one broch replace the other or were they lived in at the same time?'

These words I have quoted are on the plaque at the entrance to the broch and are presented by Historic Scotland. I hope they will not mind my using them here for your benefit.
