The Phillipines
We've had a multicultural week at school. Each year group picks a country to study for the week. We have a large Filipino population at our school, so we chose that.
The children absolutely loved it. We've had several mum's into talk about their country, share their stories and they have been fantastic. We've collaged Sarimanok birds, flags, and made parols.
The week culminated in a huge fiesta, organised entirely by the parents. They cooked food, set up a traditional hut and party marquee on our field, which they decorated. We asked the children to wear party clothes, and they found traditional costumes for all of us teachers to wear.
The party was amazing! They had music, they showed the children how to play the traditional games they told them about earlier in the week, and we tasted their lovely food too.
It was a fab afternoon, and with the 90 degree weather it felt like we were in the Phillipines!
I got spectacularly sunburned, despite trying to stay in the shade!
