Music in the streets
The streets were alive with the sound of music today in the Hampshire market town of Romsey.
The occasion was the annual Beggars Fair when local musicians and entertainers bring music, dance and song to the borough.
The Beggars Fair takes place in pubs, hotels, churches, gardens and open spaces in the town. Some are indoors, but today mostly outdoors in the sunshine, but all venues were just a short walk away from each other.
All around Romsey the best of local performers entertained with folk, jazz, blues and world music, colourful dance displays and children’s entertainment.
The Beggars Fair has been running since 1993 and lives up to its aims of encouraging and showcasing local talent in a friendly environment. There were big bands on the Cornmarket and Abbey square main stages, to intimate acoustic music in tranquil gardens, cheerful pub sessions and spellbinding storytelling.
It's a great atmosphere that keeps bringing crowds to the town, and performers, back year after year.
