Gwydir Castle
There's a wonderful story behind the restoration of this 16th century castle in the Vale of Conwy, north Wales.
A young couple, Judy and Peter Corbett, on holiday from London caught sight of this large stone mansion and fell in love with it. They had long had pipe-dreams of buying an old ruin and escaping the city, the pace and excesses of modern life. But it was only when they'd moved into a squalidly filthy, cold and wet Gwydir Castle that they began to realise what restoration dramas they'd let themselves in for. That was some 17 years ago and now it is the most fascinating place to visit. You can read more about it here.
We left the castle and drove through Snowdonia to Anglesey where the weekend celebrations were about to commence. The two extra pictures below show some of the glorious scenery that we saw - the serrated edge of Tryfan - and the classic view of Snowdon that we didn't see the last time we were here .........................
