Chimney pots and clocks

Today's the day .................................. to hear the bells

This is a view over the roof tops to the clock tower of Kendal Town Hall.

On this site once stood White Hall, believed to have been an exchange hall for Kendal's cloth trade with Virginia that eventually was converted to the Town Hall in 1859. Further extensions were added in 1893 including this tower for the clock and eleven bells which were rung for the first time on the occasion of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897.

If you would like to hear what they sound like (and you really have got nothing better to do with your time?!) you can listen to them here ...................
