The Wizard of Alderley Edge!

We had a sort-of-spur-of-the-moment trip to Cheshire (if a round trip of 330 miles can be "Spur-of-the-Moment"!) to see my Editor's nephew Patrick & his family who were visiting my Mum-in-law (ie Patrick's grandma - gets a bit complicated, doesn't it?) who lives in Macclesfield. Patrick and his wife Jo live & work in the French Alps so we don't see them very often.

We had a pub lunch together at "The Wizard of Edge", an old "gastro-pub" near the town of Alderley Edge. It takes its name from the legend of the Wizard of Alderley which you can read about here. The legend inspired a series of books by Alan Garner, the first of which is "The Weirdstone of Brisingamen" (see here).

This blip shows the old sign above the pub door; the sign has seen better days but somehow looks right in its context. I rather like the finishing touch of the comet(?) in the top corner :)
