Railway Terrace, Derby

Another day working in Derby, and rather surprisingly it wasn't raining at lunchtime. It was dull and cold though so I decided on a shorter walk than usual and spent some time photographing some of the fine preserved buildings outside Derby railway station.

This view is of Railway Terrace which is now a conservation area. The row of cottages was built by the North Midland Railway Company between 1841-1843 to house railway workers. In the distance at the end of the terrace is the Brunswick which was built as a hotel for second class passengers (the first class passengers stayed at the grander Midland Hotel at the other end of the terrace).

The Brunswick is now a very fine pub with an excellent selection of real ales. I have enjoyed many an hour in this pub.
