Self-sown Poppies
They are beautiful though humble, I save seeds
each year from that year's blooms and hand sow
them each fall. Then at this time next year they
will bloom again. They are quite striking when
there is a wave of them. I have to weed out some
each spring but mostly I let them struggle on their
own....Some with little or no competition get bigger
blooms and two to three blooms per plant. Others,
in competition with one another, produce smaller
blooms with just a single flower pod.....They are
all nice in their own right; I have both singles and
doubles right now, although their season is nearly
over. Ah! For simple pleasures...........
