Dog Beers

There are times when it would be nice to have a whole different metric to go by. I think OilMan has found his mantra….

David, our  contractor arrived first thing this morning to discuss the plans for a little deck around our hot tub, and take a few boards off our  existing deck to look at its foundation. In the course of conversation we decided to go with the super low maintenance plastic deck substance--the same stuff that's there--rather than wood because it gets so hot out there and David went off to buy some.

He was back again this afternoon to inform us that they no longer make the same plastic deck substance, so we decided to go with the new plastic deck substance, even though it won't look quite the same. OilMan's other mantra is that you don't see either of the other decks from the hot tub area, so it doesn't matter what it looks like.  That is not my mantra so I had to stick around while he and David were discussing the options. I decided to  take a picture of OilMan's shirt, and David decided to get into the act.

Why oh why do they never make the same thing for more than a few years? Supposedly this is the "new and improved" deck substance, but it seems to me that like so many other products, it is neither new or improved. The same thing seems to be true for just about everything…appliances, shoes even cleaning products and breakfast cereal. What about the legions of us baby boomers who are neither "new" nor "improved". I'm told we outnumber all other segments of the population, so why do they market to young people with short attention spans?
