Bonnie Prince Charlie

Here, at Loch Shiel, Glenfinnan, is where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745 and began the Jacobite Uprising.  The view from the other direction is of the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, if you've seen Harry Potter, you've seen the viaduct( extra pic).  The steam train goes over the viaduct a few times a day but we missed it, we did see it the night before though in Morar. We went down to the Loch and had a wander up a hill (another extra pic), we were lucky enough to see an Eagle soaring, sadly my photography skills and equipment are not up to that job.

We came here after a morning trying to see Ben Nevis (Scotland's highest mountain), but mostly we saw tantalising glimpses of the Ben through the fast approaching cloud.  We went up Aonach Mor in the cable car, to a height of 2150 feet. Again we were exceptionally lucky with the weather, it only began to rain after our walk.  The extra pic is of the cloud scooting across Ben Nevis and coming at us, scarily fast! The wind was howling and it was altogether quite exciting.

Before all that fun however, we had some shopping to do.  It became obvious we were a bag down - the bag containing all the kids' clothes.  Oops, Paul packed the car so I blame him, although I didn't check they were all loaded in to the boot! The palaver with Alfie catching a bird and bringing it into the house as were were getting ready to leave didn't help either. So...a quick shopping trip and sixty quid down, the kids got to change into fresh clothes!

Back to Fort William and off to Weatherspoons for dinner - steak night (hurrah) then a wander back to then hotel.  Day two - success!

Ciao
