Way down upon the Susquehanna River....
We found the spotted sandpiper again. I was really surprised the first time as I had no idea you would find anything other than killdeer around here. The last time I saw one we looked it up and discovered these sandpipers are usually found on freshwater lakes and rivers. The surprise was we also found least sandpipers on the river the last time and those were most likely migrating. At least as near as we could tell they aren't supposed to be permanent or even summer residents. The extra is a great blue heron. Though we spotted 2 greens they were taking off faster than I could drop the paddle and shoot. Most of these were sharpened or cropped given low light , bobbing kayaks and poor photographic technique!
