Madness - Live At Chepstow Racecourse
The culmination of a week of doing some pretty fun things.
This afternoon I made my first visit to a race course as an adult. I apparently went to one when I was small with my parents. I have no recollection of it.
We booked it as it was an evenings races and then Madness live at the end.
I had no idea what to expect when I got there. We had made a decision before we went that we would bet a £1 each on the same horse for the seven races. We also decided with a bet that small it really wasn't worth backing the favourites as we just wouldn't get anything back. So we kept going for the fancied outsiders. Not the long odds but those that were in the 5/1 - 10/1 bracket.
We only got one winner, in the second race and got £8 back. All of our other horse made the winning circle, and we had some really close seconds, but it wasn't really our night. It was great fun, and there was only the one that got away at the end, with a 10/1 coming in we nearly backed.
The three hours racing passed by quite quickly, and then it was onto the main event.
Madness were brilliant. They played a few new songs, but by and large it was a greatest hits night. All of the classics were played, Baggy Trousers, My Girl, The Prince, One Step Beyond, Embarrassment, House Of Fun, the list goes on and on.
It was a great night. There were some seriously pissed people there that kind of put me off a little bit on going to a gig there again, but the gig itself passed off with no problems, and to be honest I have had more annoying people stand next to me at indoor gigs with no pre-amble.
I would love to do you a set list, but none have appeared yet.
