Mountain Ash
Today was a crisp, sunny winters day- just perfect for a walk amongst the mountain ash, Eucalyptus regnans, the world's tallest flowering tree. Historical records show that some of these giantss grew well over 100 metres. Most of the really big ones have been lost to bush fires or logging. The ones we see today typically grow to between 70 - 100 metres, still mighty tall. They have a glorious smell too, but then I could be a bit biased, in fact the smell of eucalypts is my favourite smell in the world! :)
