Whitby
BB was really keen to visit Whitby as he had read a book at school which was based there. Many years ago I was equally fascinated to visit Whitby after reading Possession by A.S. Byatt.
We had a lovely drive over the Yorkshire Moors and landed in Whitby. We couldn’t believe how busy it was. We had a wander around and headed up the 199 steps to the Abbey. It was nice to be away from the crowds and the views were fantastic. We wandered around until TT’s hayfever could stand it no more and we had to head back down to town to purchase some antihistamines.
There was a choirfest in town – with choirs singing round every corner. There was also a pirate convention behind the abbey, so there were lots of pirates around. We did a lot of wandering – which was a lovely way to spend such a warm summer’s day.
By about 4 o’clock we were ready to go. We headed back to the car and as BB wanted to have fish and chips for tea, TT suggested we head to Scarborough. We found somewhere by the front and had our fish and chips, but we didn’t linger. Scarborough on a Saturday evening was not a pretty place.
Here is Whitby Abbey and the extra is a view across the rooftops from the abbey steps.
