Common Red Soldier Beetle

The common red soldier beetle is an imported, possibly invasive, species from Northern Europe. The are predators and eat other insects, larvae, and eggs. They are typically found on top of flowers such as this Queen Anne's Lace (aka wild carrot), also an introduced species from the same area.
