Table of Friends
Our wonderful Farmers' Market sponsors a series of pop-up breakfasts on site every summer. Communal tables are set up right in the middle of the market and diners experience a multi-course meal over the space of a couple hours. There is plenty of time to chat with folks seated nearby, and often farmers will do brief presentations about their specialties. The menus are designed to showcase seasonal organic produce from local vendors and to feature the creations of exciting creative chefs from the area. So you don't just get some steamed spinach, like you might at our house--these greens are layered with shredded roasted potato and slow cooked brisket, baked in individual timbales made from cylinders of foil, and served with a dreamy tomato coulis. There were over a hundred guests to feed, which is a lot of foil, and an amazing undertaking. These breakfasts are a highly successful fundraiser for the market's education and outreach program, and regularly sell out well in advance.
This morning we sat across from old friends, and while I was photographing the distortions in the water bottle, S was busy sketching me.
