eco-Flaggery

On my daily walk for the newspaper noticed that yet another school had hoisted the green flag of the new religion. This it seems is a project being followed in a good number of Scottish schools. Mike Russell had this to say:-
"The Eco-Schools programme engages children and young people in key issues including the environment, sustainability, global citizenship and the value of a low carbon future. The growing numbers of Eco-Schools in Scotland is inspiring and I would like to congratulate everyone involved and encourage you all to keep doing all you can to reduce the carbon footprint of your school, home and community."

To put it mildly Mike Russell is far from being one of my favourite politicians. I first took a dislike to him when I indexed a book on the life of Winnie Ewing one of the SNP's leading lights and a Westminster MP. I can't remember now whether he was a co-writer or just there in the background. He's done nothing since to change my opinion.

Mrs P's comment was that there are are moves at her primary school to get a flag pushed by an ambitious teacher who has realised that success in today's educational world has nothing to do with actually teaching young children. Just a few weeks ago Arnold Clark, a large company originating in Scotland, said that many school leavers were 'unemployable' and just a few days ago the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) said many companies found they were having to teach school-leavers basic skills.

But at least they're pretty hot on Eco-ism.
