Dorset rambling...

Set off from home in.... the rain! But by the time we arrived at the Elizabethan mansion of Montacute House (extra photo 1), it had dried up so we were able to have coffee (and the best flapjack in the world!) in the courtyard café. Just down the road, our second stop was the 14th century Stoke Sub Hamdon Priory, for a quick look at the medieval farm buildings and former priest's residence (extra photo 2).

Leaving Somerset behind us, we crossed the border into Dorset and, after another quick stop to say hello to my Uncle and Aunty in Bridport, arrived at Seatown on the coast (main picture). There's a great pub right down on the beach and the beer garden has stunning views all along the coast, as well as serving great food! (Extra photo 3 - I couldn't resist sharing my sarnie with a view!!)  And the sun shone down, the sea sparkled, the waves crashed on the shore, and I was very happy!!

After a quick paddle in the sea, and a fruitless search for fossils on the beach, we headed to West Bay to pick up my Dotty Godmother then back to Beaminster and our cottage for the weekend at Meerhay Manor, (extra photo 4) a thatched hamstone house dating back to 1610.

There's another whole story to tell you about our cottage (which was in the stable block of the manor house) and the evening that unfolded, but I shall save that until another day... Let's just say the accommodation was very 'interesting', I'll say no more!!
