Entering the field of combat
The Household Cavalry holds summer training in Norfolk each year and for one day open their doors to the public. This year the public included us.
We visited the stables (beautiful beasts), viewed various examples of horsemanship and motorbike stills and watched a Tentpegging contest. Riders use swords to attack dummies between jumps, then use a revolver firing .38 (9mm) blanks to burst balloons in mid air over jumps and on the ground. The lance is then used on the final element, to collect two rings from a pair of gallows and a peg form the ground. The skills needed to do this successfully are very impressive. These guys did not win but got quite close.
