Castle 3
I am back in North Berwick finishing my job, and had enough time to drive a little farther on to another ruined gem of a castle.
Tantallon Castle today, once again cared for by Historic Scotland.
Built in the 1350s by Nobleman William Douglas who in 1358 was made Earl of Douglas. The family continued to live here for 300 year.
It is known to have been besieged on three occasions, James IV in 1491, James V in 1528, and finally in 1651 by Oliver Cromwell whose heavy guns brought an end to Tantallon's days as one of Scotlands strongest castles.
