Boom!

All of last evening (after I posted my daily Blip), the sky looked threatening, the air hot and humid, the cloud increasing.  We moved with the care of prowling cats, sinews tensed, motion slow and economical.  By about 11p.m. it had become almost unbearable, but the thunder was rumbling ever closer and the flashes of lightning were growing brighter and brighter. Then it hit.  A huge bang as if someone had hit you on the head with a shovel and, in the very same moment, a bright blue flash in the garden and all the lights went out.  If this were a movie, the lights would then have come on again to show us topped with mad scientist hair billowing plumes of smoke.  But no.  We survived, if a little deafened.  The lightning must have grounded just a few yards from the house. I flicked the trip switches back up and the lights came on again.  However, the Internet modem was fried, dead, lucked out.  Today, Sunday, we woke to the realisation of no Internet, but with lunch planned with friends it wasn't going to be a surfing day anyway.  We had a great meal in the Trois Soleils with Peter and Janice, great food, good crack and fabulous wines.  But Sunday's Blip posting would have to wait until tomorrow until I can get a new modem.
