Twechar-bound
Tuesday's walk with Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Ramblers was advertised as a linear walk from Kirkintilloch to Kilsyth, and that was what it was. Except that we didn't follow the route that the leader had planned originally. The recent wet weather and heavy downpours put paid to that.
Instead we walked along the Canal towpath until we came to Dumbreck Marshes, from where we followed the path into Kilsyth.
There was a short spell of very heavy rain about an hour before we were due to meet up but, amazingly and thankfully, it stayed dry for the duration of the walk - about two and a half hours, including a short 'banana stop' at Twechar.
One thing one can say about summer-time in Scotland - it is certainly green. The warmer weather and the abundant rain (this summer at least) sees to that. I think the conditions also played a part in a lower number of walkers than usual turning out this week - although the summer holidays may also have been a factor.
