Amsterdam
I took this photo of one of the canals. They were really pretty, with baskets of flowers above them.
It was raining today, as predicted. We had a nice lie-in, and didn't even stir until 9:30am. T's mum has encouraged us to relax and not rush around so much today, so we took her advice.
We had breakfast inside today, but with the doors open even though it was raining. I had porridge again, which was delicious, while the others had bread, cheese and meat.
We sat and chatted for about an hour. I do love relaxed breakfasts :-) Around 12pm we decided to get ready. T drove us all to a place called Zaanse Schans, which was like a dutch model village. Apparently people actually do live in some of the houses there. It's very touristy, and we saw all things typically dutch, such as wooden shoe making and lots of windmills!
We drove into town to do some shopping, and then met for lunch. By this time the sun had come out and it was really hot. What a change from all that rain earlier!
We had a good chat and it was so nice sitting there soaking up all the scenery. I had carpaccio salad which was so good!
We drove home, and I had about 15 minutes to get ready before we needed to leave for the airport. T took lots of pictures of his house for me, and I was quite sad to go home! It was a bit like being on holiday, yet I had to go back to work for another two days!
I was sad to say goodbye to T at the airport. Two of his/our friends are going out next weekend and they're all going to a festival, so I'm a bit jealous!
I strolled around at Schiphol, and did a little shopping. It was a beautiful and blue-sky evening, and very warm as we waited for ages at the gate waiting to be allowed onto the plane. Once we were on there was a problem with the radio, and we had to wait even longer! But they were quick to assure us that there was nothing wrong with the plane ;-)
I arrived back at Gatwick at 8:15pm, and had plenty of time to get to the south terminal to catch the train. It was sooooooo much easier just travelling with hand luggage! It's a shame I shan't be able to do that when I go to Spain in a few weeks time!
I got chatting to a Spanish man who sat next to me on the flight, and while he was very nice, he pursued me for my phone number, which I reluctantly gave him. Knowing full well I was neither interested or available. I managed to get away from him after passport control, but he caught up with me on the shuttle and it was a bit awkward! I was glad when he had to go and make his train, but also a bit cross with myself for not being a bit more assertive.
I Facetimed T and his parents while I waited for the train. I discovered some huge mosquito bites on my hands that drove me insane with the itching!
When I arrived home at 10pm, mum and Little B were there to pick me up. I was so pleased to see B, and the feeling was mutual, judging by the whimpering and squealing!
A very unexpectedly happy weekend. I was sad to be home, but I unpacked quickly, put some washing on, and had a nice bath. I had a (last) bowl of shreddies and was in bed by midnight.
* There were lots of pictures taken of T and I, but I have deleted almost all of them as I look dreadful! So I'm fasting for the forseeable future ;-)
