Baboon Faced Hover Fly
Well, I think it is a Hover Fly and I am pretty sure there isn't a Baboon Faced one but this is what it looks like to me. I used to think all insects sucking on a flower were bees. That is, until Blip. I am learning so much about the insect world from viewing all the wonderful macro images. Macro has opened up a whole new world to me and I find I am wanting to identify the things that pop up on my computer at night. I started out this evening taking some more lavender bees. There was a feeding frenzy on the neighbour's lavender and they took no notice of me even though I was so close to them. Consequently, there was a photo frenzy on the other end of the camera and I saw about 4 different types of bees on the one plant. I noticed they didn't have pollen bags and most had very hairy legs so they look like they are Cuckoo bumblebees. I posted a bee and lavender photo last Friday so I am going with the Hover Fly tonight and I have added a couple bee shots in extras.
