Evening Sun at Kew
I enjoyed a marvellous outing to Kew Gardens with B, M & V. As well as their excellent company, there was sunshine, ice cream, tea and cake and loads to see, including the interesting Kew Palace, home to George III and of course the beautiful gardens and grounds. The stunning (and huge) Victorian palm house contains 16,000 panes of glass, and its design was pioneering in its time as it was the first time engineers had used wrought iron to span such large widths without supporting columns. This was a technique borrowed from the shipbuilding industry and it's said that from a distance the building looks the upturned hull of a ship.
The extra shots are of a close up of one of the lilies seen in the beautiful waterlily house next door. The other was taken inside the pantry in the Kitchens next to Kew Palace. It was one of those days when there were just so many 'blipopportunities'!
