Ferry to Kerrera
Only 12 passengers allowed on this tiny ferry. There are no seats or shelter. A five minute crossing south of Oban to the island of Kerrera. Here, one of the locals unloading his shopping, to be picked up on the other side. The mail came too, collected by a Royal Mail quad bike with rain cover. Just 35 residents on the island.
We enjoyed a five mile loop walk, with wonderful views across to Mull and Islands to the south. Wet underfoot, so glad to have the walking boots on.
At the south end is Gylen Castle, with connections to the Clan McDougall. A ruin, but you can go inside and climb the spiral stair to the kitchen area. Great views across the bays on either side of the peninsula.
Then, find of the day. "Hello ... is it tea you're looking for?" The Bunkhouse and Tea Garden. Delicious cakes, and a variety of teas. Lunches too. We had carrot and chocolate brownie cake. The Bunkhouse was so quirky. Sofas, standard lamps, a guitar, wood burning stove. So many different china teapots. Highly recommend going over just to experience this.
A leisurely walk on to the ferry, passing a wreck and the big Calmac ferry en route to Colonsay.
