Lavender
Janet and I took a bimble into the Cotswolds today, visiting Hidecote House and Garden and Snowshill Manor Garden. In between we chanced upon the Cotswold Lavender Farm. Hard in fact to miss; the scent of lavender wafts across the fields!
Coincidentally, the farmer was cropping one of the fields, and we saw how swiftly the heads were harvested (see extra photo). He seemed to take back closer to the wood than my own gardener would normally recommend, but then again we don't remove the flowers during the flowering season.
The bees and hover flies were having a fine old time dodging the harvester, which also had a man walking in front yelling at all the photographers to "get out of the bloody way!" Some quaint local custom, no doubt.
