Lovely Cricket
I walked the Amwell Dragonfly Trail this afternoon and only saw a couple which I didn't manage to capture. I found this dark bush-cricket on the river bank and it was most accommodating. I've never seen or photographed one before. It scrambled rather than jumped and didn't seem to mind being handled. I might have been more cautious about picking it up had I known that, being omnivorous and cannibalistic, they are not averse to nipping humans. :) This is a female. Her fearsome-looking curved ovipositor is for depositing her eggs in cracks and crevices.
She's sitting on an, aptly-named, bristly ox-tongue leaf.
