Pelican Convention
Moira and I went on an adventure this morning. I told her that we were just going to take a drive in the car and stop wherever we wanted to. I figured heading out to the beach was a good place to start. After a few stops that Moira was not very interested in, we hit the jackpot. We took a walk on the boardwalk at John's Pass to look for birds and dolphins. I told Moira that there was an adventure everywhere, we just had to look for it. Both of us laughed when we saw all of these Pelicans on someone's dock. There is a lone Egret on the side. I think he is at the wrong convention!
We stopped in a jewelry store just in time to see the drama of a very large bird flying around knocking down the displays! The salesclerk and I tried to help the bird find the door to leave. We were all relieved when he finally flew out! Moira asked me why I didn't take a picture. I was a little busy.
After that excitement, we just sat for a while taking pictures of some more Pelicans. Then a Blue Heron landed a few feet away and waited for his handout. A women that was selling tickets for the Dolphin Cruise came over and introduced us to the Heron. She named him Mr. Grumpy. He apparently is very good at dumpster diving and begging for french fries but is grumpy when he doesn't receive a handout! He stalked off when all we did was take his picture.
The boardwalk was full of sights to see. Moira was very excited to see a the pirate ship sail off. She would have been very happy to be on that ship! When I told her we could look for an ice cream shop, she was thrilled to move on to a special treat.
If you want to see more of the shore birds and Mr. Grumpy, check out the flicker pictures.
