Seagulls Feeding Time

I am always fascinated by Seagulls. Today at Waikouiti Beach I was watching them pick up shellfish then flying up about 30 meter's and then dropping them onto the sand where they would break. The birds would then land and eat the contents. Interesting to see that the bird knows that an action will have a desired result. Presumably nothing new.
