Back in time in Vouvant
Steeped in history, the little town of Vouvant has a sense of mystery and magic. The spectacular doorway of the 12th century Romanesque Church drew me; the level of detail was extraordinary with some carving reminiscent of the temples of Khajuraho in India (not THOSE figures though). The row of what looks like figures doing a yoga bridge were quite intriguing!
Further on are the looming remains of the castle, with the Melusine Tower, supposedly built in one night by the Queen who was part fairy, part snake. Obviously.
Though reliant on tourism, we were delighted that the town still retained its french atmosphere, not selling out to the tourists.
