Defending the nest (Plovers)

This pair of Plovers have been calling home in our front paddock for a couples of years now.

A couple of weeks ago, noted these 2 Plovers were defending a patch of grass near the house. Each time we get close its flew towards us and makes lots of squawking noises. In an attempt to see how many eggs are in the nest, we drove the car close to its nest without any problem. As soon as we wind the windows down, so dear, the squawking and displays of wings were on show (a face with 2 eyes!).
I guess it would be some weeks before we could walk through or mow this section of the paddock now.
