Unexpected

After an uneventful flight we arrived in Dubrovnik at lunchtime. Had a lovely drive up the coast road towards our little village. However, we were stopped by police a few miles from our destination to be told that our village was on fire, and the road was currently closed. There had been a huge forest fire caused by a week of exceptionally high temperatures. Fortunately people and property were mostly undamaged, but the beautiful countryside was ravaged.
We finally got in to the village in the late afternoon. No power, but we managed with a cold supper. People are slowly starting to return after being evacuated yesterday. The fires are still burning, but are being controlled by water drops from helicopters.
