The Anderton Boat Lift
Our party consisted of 2 people in their 60's, 2 more in their 90's and a further 2 under 5. A day out at the Anderton Lift in Northwich was an inspired idea. It had something for everyone. A great cafe with a lovely view, plenty of canal boats to look at, excellent children's play areas including a model waterway and a maze and a ride down the river followed by a lift up the 50 feet from the river Weaver to the Trent and Mersey Canal. It was built during the Victorian era to help with the distribution of coal to, and salt from, the works in the area. We had a solid 45 minutes talk about it as we went up in the lift in our boat, so I should be able to tell you lots more about it. But I'm afraid I can't.
