'Starting The Hare'.....

....A phrase that refers to the pursuit of irregular issues.   That said, the bronze, leaping hare sculpture by Barry Flanagan, 1989, is called 'THE CRICKETER' as it is in Jesus College's cricket grounds. He has made several similar hare sculptures but this is one of Flanagan's most exuberant exhibits.......'It implies a spirit of truancy and frivolity, physical agility with an ability to make imaginative leaps, the performative ingenuity attaching to the image of the Mad March Hare.'     So now we know !  I rather like this fine piece of work.
