Could have, should have, maybe....
Today we were supposed to climb Mt Manson at the northern end of the Craigieburn Range. But once again the weather in the mountains was awful.
Always up for an adventure, we headed to the peninsula. There was a plan but somehow we ended up bush bashing on a large scale.
See that rough area in the middle with rocks dotted just to left of the cliffs? We spend a very long time bush bashing in there until we literally crawled up to the base of the rocks.
About then we decided continuing up wasn't a great idea and we should delicately crash our way back down, find our way to the stream in valley, cross it and have lunch.
I can confirm there are vast amounts of gorse, bush lawyer, Onga onga (native nettle) and other vigorous and wirey scrub on the face. There is also quite a bit of skin, flesh, sweat and blood up there too.
But it was all good fun. As rough as country as you'll find anywhere. But no one fell, dropped down anything nasty or bed uncontrollably. And yes, we've figured out a different route to explore next time.
I'll try to keep my legs covered during daylight, lest I scare the natives with my numerous scratches and scrapes ;-)
