Farol By Mistake
Today we went to Ilha Culatra, which is one of a group of islands just off the coast beyond Faro.
We caught the ferry from Olhoa, but got off at Farol by mistake, and had to jump back on and retrace our steps to Culatra. After a short walk through a shanty-like town with no roads and so no traffic (except for a tractor), and along a lengthy boardwalk, we arrived at the far side of the island and a beach which was just like one you might find in the Caribbean: long pale sand, clear blue and very warm water and few people.
After plenty of swimming and snoozing, we headed back to town for some fish and found just the thing. We were served some delicious cold sardines, Jacqui had a starter of almejas (clams) which were yummy (apparently) and the main of golden sea bream, salad and potatoes. This arrived at the point when we found out we had 20 minutes to eat it and pay before the ferry left. The next boat was 2 hours later!
A wonderful day of exploring, sunbathing and swimming all in one.
