Gelligaer Common
The weather is back to normal (really rainy)after a sunny day yesterday. Mrs BB needed to get something for a friends birthday present so we headed to Merthyr out of town shopping area.
Afterwards I took a meandering drive in which ever way look interesting. After driving through some out of the way villages we landed on Gelli Gaer Common. Wild ponies and sheep are the only real inhabitants high up on Gelligaer Common, making it an ideal walk for some windblown solitude. The remains of Capel Gwladys, although fifth century, are far from the oldest things here: there’s a Roman road, a Bronze Age burial mound and the mysterious Maen Cattwg standing stone.
It wasn't a day for walking so I stopped the car and took this blip photo of the windy road over the common, and was lucky that I clicked at the right time to get a passing Landrover which adds to the feel of the picture.
