Old & New
We left earlier than originally planned for our journey to Ashford to catch the Eurotunnel due to recent events but got there in plenty of time. However, all trains were delayed by half hour but we were grateful it was only a short time compared to last weeks delays.
Once we were at Calais it was another hour and half drive (I am the driver) to our hotel in Gent, Belgium. We booked in and chilled (in our rather small room) for half hour before going out to look for something to eat. I believe there has been a jazz festival here for the past 10 days as there were men and lorries dismantling stages and lighting rigs etc. as for the litter left behind....well I hope they clear it up soon!! We stopped for a pizza where 3 young lads were asleep at their tables. Either exhausted after a full weekend of partying or completely doped up to their eyeballs. I was fascinated at them trying (not very hard) to open their eyes!
Once fed we explored the town a bit more (spotting some better looking eateries along the way!!). It was very windy but didn't rain! We returned to the hotel, had a couple of drinks, played a game and retired back to our rooms quite early as it has been a long day.
I liked the old and modern buildings together. St. Nicholas Church and the Belfry in the reflection. A couple of added photos. A giant toilet roll I spotted on a little piece of wasteland and one of the crew!! (9 of us on the trip, 7 here without myself and Mr C). Gorgeous bunch ;-)) ...and one of the view!
