Caterpillar

This is the caterpillar of the Black Swallowtail. The yellow tongue shaped thing on its head is known as the osmeterium. I did not know what it was until I found it online. Apparently the caterpillar can extrude this thing when it feels threatened. I think it was threatened by my picking it up! It can secrete a substance that has a foul odor(I did not smell this) to ward off enemies.
