Cork oak
We acquired a cork oak, Quercus suber, about 15 years ago, and it is growing quite well here on an exposed slope. It now has a respectable covering of the corky bark characteristic of this Mediterranean species. We have had to do some judicious pruning to improve it's shape, and this is one of the offcuts. I think it shows the bark quite well.
Back to frozen fingers weeding today, although the sun is shining so I think some indoor jobs may be preferable. I'm stuck at home waiting for a parcel to be delivered. It is our tent, back from repair in the US, and the couriers threaten to charge us to deliver if there is no one here first time and they have to come back again. Fortunately this policy has not yet been implemented, so we won't be penalised for being out yesterday. It would be nice to know when a parcel is going to be delivered if we have to be here to receive it.
