Toby Jug.
During my early childhood there was a limited amount of goods available in the shops for Christmas presents, so each year, we, as a family, learnt a new craft so that we could make gifts to give to the extended family and family friends. As you may have guessed, one year it was plaster-of-Paris Toby jugs with this one managing to escape Christmas to adorn The Old Lady's mantelshelf until she moved into the care home; it now adorns our mantelshelf and reminds me of more innocent times.
Of course, I can't be completely certain, but it was probably painted by The Old Man who was colour blind (he’d been caned at school by an unsympathetic teacher for insubordination, he’s painted brown roses); in all other respects he was an excellent artist and craftsman. TOL would have selected the colours for him; they made a good team.
