Mount Torlesse

I awoke to the blessed relief of a nor’wester. Although it came down from the well coated mountains the air temperature was about 10ºC higher than the last few days. The ground was still frozen, but the grass was dry. I was able to shed a thick layer of clothing and a thin layer. This left three thin and one thick layer- so much more comfortable.

A fine mild day was just what we needed. My son has a few days off work and he’d settled on today to remove the old fridge-freezer. It had to be out of the way before the new one arrives, and he wanted to get a taste of what he would be up against when it does. The new one is taller, but no wider or deeper than the old one. It also has wheels, which the old one lacks. The only door big enough is the front one. Furniture, mats etc. had to be moved and the fridge turned on it’s side to prevent the feet from tearing the carpet, and then stood upright to go out the door. The doorway is about 1cm wider than the fridge is deep. There’s a tight right angle turn to go down the steps. My son achieved all this, with a bit of help from me.

Will the return journey go so well? As I’m too far out of town for the store’s deliver-and-install service the fridge will be freighted. This means (I’m not kidding) that it will be dropped off on the side of the road after dark. We will probably have to unpack it to get it through the door. We can’t wait…
