Olympic Flame - Edinburgh Castle
We got last minute tickets for the event on the Castle Esplanade (thanks Nataliya!) and sat in the boiling sunshine watching a concert then, finally, the Olympic Flame arriving and the cauldron being lit.
The atmosphere was amazing, noisy & enthusiastic - not like Edinburgh folk at all!
"The final destination of the day was Edinburgh Castle, where the Olympic flame was carried by Lesley Forrest, who received a kidney transplant in 1996 and a year later started competing in the British Transplant Games. She has since won multiple medals in both British and World Transplant Games and been made an MBE.
The last of the 115 torchbearers, Ms Forrest lit a celebration cauldron on stage at Edinburgh Castle at the evening's celebratory event, which included performances by Scottish singer Emeli Sande."
The Courier
Not the sharpest image I took but it sums up the joy of Lesley the last torch bearer of the day. She seemed startled to see so many people and said it was like having a surprise party. She then spoke about her kidney transplant and encouraged everyone to carry donor cards. I've signed up online aleady: organ donation register
