Kehlberg Strassenfest
The annual street "Party" held by a section of our village known as Kehlberg which one could translate as "Guttural Hill"! Based at Helga and Ossi's house, the road is closed off and several party tents set up for the evening. One can either pre-order 1/2 chicken or enjoy one of the items offered from the BBQ together with homemade salads. Once this is out of the way the serious part really starts and it's mainly liquid.
Due to "other" matters I was a bit late getting ready and didn't have a chance to do the evening dog walk, so decided to do walk over to the village, intending to quickly eat my chicken, drink a bottle of beer and walk home. In principle that is exactly what I did, just the one beer turned out to be a few more - well it was in very amiable company - and it got rather late. Around 11:30 pm left Angie doing her best to help empty various liqueur bottles, collected up the dogs who had been petted and stroked by the children most of the time and headed off across meadows in the rough direction of home. Luckily the dogs know the way and got me there safely.
The day had started with the first annual goose herding competition. Let the three out in the morning into a smallish fenced area which didn't fulfil it's function too well and so let them out free. They didn't go far and seemed to be placid. At some stage around midday, I checked up on them but could find no sight, sound or sign of them.
I still had hope they hadn't taken off - there is a famous story of someone in the village buying very expensive Canadian geese only to see them fly off - he then shortly afterwards at the weekly hunting meeting, had to hear a colleague boasting about having shot a number of Canadian geese!
Set off with the dogs to the stream running alongside the property. Went a long way northwards without finding anything. Returned and went upstream and sure enough, found them on the other side of the road close to the dead fox! At first, I thought I would have to cross the road with them which would have been very dangerous at the best of times. Then had the idea to drive them back in the stream and get them under the bridge. That worked but then they came out on to open fields. However, with mainly Lunas uncontrolled help we managed to get them back on to our fields. Boy was I relieved. Luna at work in the extra photo. Flash showed little interest or perhaps he sensed they were not to be trusted or even more probable, he was feeling very tired in the heat.
By the way, they are a gander and two geese.
When Angie eventually made her way home a few hours later there was a young dead fox in the middle of the road directly at out property entrance.
