Down by the river and it's hot hot hot but I resisted the temptation to put a knotted hanky on my head, roll up the trousers and take a paddle. The locals showed a little less self restraint however.

More interesting sidelines:

The dancing autnties - are to be found in every city and major town across China. They are basically ladies of a certain age who gather in public places to dance. Think line dancing on Prozac and you've got the gist of it. Hardly public enemy number one but they've got the Chinese government worried. So much so that they have stipulated the 12 pieces of music and accompanying dances that are permitted. Anything not on this approved list will get you arrested.
