Mocca
Today we have had a kind of break from being tourists. We went for lunch at a caffe (Mocca) in Maiden Street, not far from our hotel. I had an excellent beef sandwich. These cannot be compared with a British beef sandwich. The San Francisco beef sandwich has a lot of beef, and is so much better. During lunch we were entertained by this small group of jazz musicians.
In the evening we went for dinner at the Tonga Room at the Fairmont Hotel. This restaurant is situated around what was until 1945 a swimming pool. The ambience has a Tonga feel to it, and every now and again it rains over the pool, the rain is sometimes accompanied by thunder and lightening. In a boat on the pool a band provides the musical background to the meal. The only problem is the Fairmont is at the top of Nob Hill, so from our hotel, which is only a few blocks away but much lower down, we had a bit of a climb. San Francisco hills are no joke!
