Black and yellow

Was primarily looking for bees but they wouldn't play ball.  Saw this insect on a leaf  and quickly snapped it.  I don't know what it is - it seems to black and yellow to be a ordinary wasp.  Does anybody know?

Quiet day went to the hairdressers this morning and out in the garden with the camera this afternoon.  Sunny day but still windy
