Does anyone know.......
...why Princes St is partially closed this morning? There's a giant crane outside one of the major shops.I don't know what is being unloaded, but the crane is on a vehicle in the middle of the road, and is taller than the buildings.
I discovered this after a night duty, there was no buses, and I had to walk to London road, as I was unsure how buses were rerouted. It looks lovely and sunny in the photograph, but be warned there is an icy wind blowing.
During the night on the 2 occasions that I looked out of a window, the rain was being blown horizontally, and then I saw snow doing exactly the same for a few minutes. I had been speaking to a nurse from Malawi earlier this week who was hoping that it would snow, as she'd never seen it before. The conditions of work are atrocious there. Appreciate the health service. In her country there is 1 nurse looking after 100 patients. A union member got sacked for asking that water should be available for staff to use. They are at the whims of the matron who can make them work three straight shifts with no sleep, food, or water. One of the nurses was a nurse union leader, and she felt that her life was at risk because of her desire to improve things for nurses in her country, even although the previous dictatotorial leader was ousted 12 years ago.
Happy Mother's Day to all mums. My sons got me cards - lovely they were even altho one was a birthday card. the words were lovely, and added to. The choccies won't go amiss either. I feel wide awake now after walking partway home, but will have to try to sleep- on my 4th N/D tonight.
