Taxi to the airport but only to pick up a hire car. Couple of hours drive down to Herculaneum. Interesting place but swelteringly hot. Short drive to apartment no.3 in Pompeii, quick wander to get our bearings, nice meal out, coffee and people watching then back for a reasonably early night.
